About Karas Nestor, DDS
Dr. Karas was born and raised in the Bay Area and completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of the Pacific. He then received his dental degree at the University of Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco after which he was accepted into a combined medical school and oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Texas. After receiving his medical degree and advanced training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, he completed an internship in general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Karas went back to Texas and completed a Fellowship in advanced facial surgery, and then returned to UCSF accepting a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. For four years he was involved in teaching all aspects of oral surgery to residents and students at UCSF, while maintaining a busy faculty practice specializing in orthognathic, reconstructive,and dental implant surgery. Since going into private practice, after leaving full time teaching, Dr. Karas continues to lecture and he and his staff are focused on providing advanced treatment for oral and facial conditions. Dr. Karas has published extensively in a variety of topics related to Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. Click his resume below to see a listing of these publications. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, National Board of Dental Anesthesiology, and American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. Many procedures can be completed in our office surgical suites; however, for more advanced surgery or for patient’s with severe medical conditions, Dr. Karas also works at John Muir Medical Center.
