About John D. Orsi, DDS
John Orsi D.D.S. graduated from the University of the Pacific Dental School in 1983 and has been practicing general dentistry in Sacramento California since then. For fifteen years he was on staff at Sutter General Hospital treating dental emergencies in the hospital emergency room. He is a past president and peer review chairman of the Sacramento District Dental Society (SDDS) and was instrumental in bringing community water fluoridation to the City of Sacramento. Since 1983 Dr. Orsi has learned from many outstanding restorative dentists most notably: Peter Dawson, Frank Spear, John Kois, Carl Reider, Harold Shavell, and Irwin Becker. In 1991 Dr. Orsi began a systematic approach to advanced dental training with the The Pankey Institute. Over the next decade he completed every continuum offered then and became a Pankey Scholar in 2005. The same year he published the book, Beyond the Standard of Care / Applying the Pankey Philosophy, which teaches dentists how to be better dentists. He has been a visiting faculty member of The Pankey Institute since 2007 and was a member of their Speakers Bureau. In 2006, he completed a one-year implant prosthetic training program in Detroit with Dr. Carl Misch and in 2007 completed a one-year surgical residency there. Dr. Orsi attended UCLA as an undergraduate student and returned there for advanced training mini-residencies in both Sleep Medicine and Orofacial Pain (2011 and 2012) at the same time completing an internet mini-residency program in orofacial pain from the University of New Jersey. In 2013 he became a full-time preceptor in the Orofacial Pain and Sleep Medicine program at UCLA Dental School while maintaining his private practice in Sacramento and passed the board certification process for specialty orofacial pain in 2014. Since 2015 Dr. Orsi has been teaching part time with UCLA’s Orofacial Pain and Sleep Medicine graduate program in Southern California while continuing to practice restorative dentistry in Sacramento where he lives. Dr. Orsi has a passion for treating patients and teaching that involves interdisciplinary and complex care.
