About Gopal A. Patel, MD
Dr. Patel was born and raised in New Jersey. After graduating as valedictorian of his high school class, he completed an accelerated medical program at UMDNJ – New Jersey Medical School. He received a full academic scholarship to the university and graduated with membership to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. He went on to complete an internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX. During this time he performed clinical research in medical dermatology and published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. He has completed a research fellowship studying the biology of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Patel also teaches residents as a Clinical Instructor at the VA Medical Center Dermatology Clinic in Philadelphia. Dr. Patel is board-certified in dermatology, and maintains an interest in the full breadth of dermatology, including care for skin cancer patients, medical dermatology, and cosmetic dermatology with an emphasis on building a strong doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Patel continues to work nationally with the American Academy of Dermatology, and is passionate about volunteerism and patient advocacy. Furthermore, he retains membership in multiple dermatology specialty societies. Recently, Dr. Patel has served as a Director-at-Large for the Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology.
