About Eric Z. Shapira, DDS
Dr Eric Shapira grew up in Los Angeles, California. He attended Cal State Northridge and then Bethany College in West Virginia, where he graduated with honors. Afterward, he attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he received Masters credits in Biochemistry and Medicine. He then went to the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy achieving his Masters credits in Nuclear Medicine. But this was not enough. He then went to Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia for his Doctorate in Dental Surgery degree. Moving back to California after dental school he attended a General Practice residency in Dentistry and Medicine at Mt Zion Hospital and Medical Center in San Francisco, California. Dr Shapira had his own practice for over 35 years in Half Moon Bay, California and has worked in teaching for over 40 years; teaching courses for dentists, physicians, and nurses in Geriatrics and special needs dentistry, as well as other issues in dentistry and medicine.. He received his Master’s degree in Clinical Gerontology from Notre Dame de Namur University and a Master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix. Dr Shapira has volunteered his skills for many years through Rotary International and by himself in South America, Sri Lanka, the Caribbean, Mexico and for 14 years going to mainland China as a Professor of Geriatric Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing. He has held many honors and published extensively. He has written a book on healthy aging called, “A New Wrinkle: What I Learned from Older People Who Never Acted Their age.” It is in its second printing and has won two writing awards. Dr Shapira continues to teach, both for much of Organized dental groups and at Southwestern College of Dental Hygiene. He holds a Master’s in General Dentistry through the Academy of General Dentistry as well. His much deserved honors were in receiving a Humanitarian Award from the National Academy of General Dentistry, an Award for Foreign Service from the American Dental Association and more recently, The Friendship Award, China’s highest Award for Humanitarian service in their country. Dr Shapira continues to write, find time for painting and sculpting and spending time with his family and dogs.
