About Douglas D. Leventhal, MD
Dr. Leventhal graduated with high honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned his medical degree from UMDNJ, graduating first in his class. He then completed his surgical internship and residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Following residency, Dr. Leventhal went on to receive advanced fellowship training in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at New York University in New York City. Dr. Leventhal has been inducted into several honor societies throughout all levels of his training, including Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. He has published numerous original articles in peer-reviewed Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery journals. In addition, he has authored multiple book chapters in the area of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Leventhal has presented papers at regional and national meetings and has been invited to lecture other physicians at various medical courses. Dr. Leventhal is double board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) and the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). Areas of special interest include surgical treatments to improve nasal breathing and sinus surgery. Dr. Leventhal’s extensive training provides him with unique expertise in surgery of the nose both to improve breathing (Septoplasty, turbinoplasty, nasal valve repair) and to improve appearance (Rhinoplasty). He is using cutting-edge techniques to improve nasal airflow including cartilage repositioning and grafting and Latera® nasal valve implants. He also uses state-of-the-art techniques for sinus surgery including 3D Cat scan image guidance, balloon sinuplasty, and Propel® sinus implants. Dr. Leventhal was involved with the initial research studies during the development of the balloon sinuplasty technique. In addition, Dr. Leventhal provides care for patients with general ear, nose, and throat disorders.
