His practice philosophy is to take the time to know his patients, identify their wants, needs & values, and treat each person according to his/her own circumstances, objectives and temperament. He also loves working with such a talented group of dentists, chairside assistants, and administrative associates here at TDA.When I was in junior high school and considering a future career my Irish grandmother suggested dentistry. I’m sure she never imagined the impact that suggestion would have not just on my life and that of my family, but on the thousands of patients who have trusted me with their dental care over the years. I also had no appreciation of how wonderful the profession of dentistry would be, or the many advances that keep a perpetual learner like myself interested and excited to apply my knowledge. But life is about a lot more than just dentistry. I met my wife, Dr. Lynn Swan, when she was pre-med and I was pre-dent at Michigan. We were married in the upper peninsula, he hometown, just before our sophomore year of professional school. When Lynn did her Family Medicine residency and then joined the teaching staff at U of M, I started a private practice in Chelsea, MI. 10 years after graduation, in 1994, we made the big jump to Traverse City and haven’t looked back. We raised four kids on the shores of East Bay, Jill, Dan, Ben & Beth and all graduated from Traverse City St. Francis before going on to college. Our oldest three have settled in the area while our youngest is still in college at U of M. Lynn and I enjoy grandparenting, travel, golf, tennis, boating, fishing, skiing, wine-tasting and all of the wonderful things northwest Michigan has to offer. We’ve been parishioners at Christ the King Catholic Church in Acme since 1994 and play guitar for the folk masses there. I’ve also gotten involved in the local music scene for the past 10 years with my classic rock band, “Geezer”, as well as with the tribute band Peter, Paul & Mary Remembered plus several years in the pit orchestra during the St. Francis plays.
