About Christopher Henninger, DMD
Dr. Henninger was born in Tennessee. He attended the Baylor School of Chattanooga where he excelled in academics, and earned a varsity swimming scholarship to the University of South Carolina. Once he completed his undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry, he began his dental degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. During dental school he was awarded a scholarship from the United States Navy and he agreed to serve as a Dental Officer for three years. While in dental school, he developed a passion for treating underserved people through an organization called Dental Community Fellowship. Through DCF he traveled to more than twelve countries on dental mission trips. After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Henninger completed a one year hospital-based residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton that focused on Dental Anesthesia, oral surgery, and providing complex dental treatment to patients with complex medical histories. Much of this training was dedicated to treating pre-cooperative children and persons with special needs in the hospital operating room setting. After residency, Dr. Henninger was assigned to the USS BOXER (LHD 4), where he served as department head and the ship’s only dentist. Dr. Henninger deployed in 2008 as a part of Mission Continuing Promise, and in 2009 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also held hospital privileges at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Dr. Henninger joins us with a wealth of dental experience. He has full hospital privileges at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas and Tri-City Medical Center. He is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, San Diego County Dental Society, the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Henninger is also a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and is one of only five percent of restorative dentists certified by the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology to provide IV sedation. Dr. Henninger’s professional passions include CAD/CAM dentistry utilizing digital impression techniques, dental anesthesia, dental implant therapy, and sleep apnea treatment. Dr. Henninger lives in Carlsbad with his wife, Camille and three children. In his spare time, he enjoys many outdoor activities including running, biking, and surfing.
