Infrared Skin Tightening

Skin tightening with near infrared light utilizes heat energy during a noninvasive procedure to stimulate collagen production and firm the skin. During treatment, a hand piece delivers infrared light to heat the dermis which triggers the natural wound healing cascade within the body, producing collagen and elastin for a tighter appearance to the skin over time.

About the Procedure

Due to the natural aging process, the skin on the face begins to sag causing drooping jowls, eyes, and cheeks. For some individuals, invasive procedures such as a face or neck lift are not ideal, and a completely non-surgical treatment is preferred. Near infrared skin tightening delivers infrared energy deep into the dermis, heating the tissue. The heating causes the body to initiate the healing process which stimulates collagen and elastin production. Infrared skin tightening—like ultrasound, radiofrequency, and laser treatments—reveal gradual improvement of the skin over the course of several months. Before the procedure, a gel will be applied over the treatment area for easier application of the device. The wand of the device will be applied to the treatment area in a constant motion, delivering infrared energy (broadband spectrum of light in the range 1100 - 1800 nm) to the skin. Most patients will feel a warm sensation akin to a hot stone massage. To keep the skin from overheating, the tip of the device wand typically has a cooling feature to ensure optimal patient comfort. Desired results will take multiple treatments with upkeep sessions needed once yearly.

The goal of infrared skin tightening is to stimulate the creation of new collagen while contracting and tightening existing collagen for the appearance of firmer, younger skin.
