Why The AEDITOR Should Be A Part Of Your Aesthetic Journey

You’ve researched treatment options, looked at before and after photos, talked to friends about their experiences, and maybe even consulted with a provider, but you're still apprehensive about what you are actually going to look like after undergoing a cosmetic surgery or procedure. If only you could see what your results could be.

Whether you’re shopping for that perfect shade of lipstick online or simply readying your next Instagram post, you’ve likely experienced or experimented with a face editing tool (or two). Artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and machine learning (ML) technologies are now available in the palm of our hands, but the results they produce aren’t always based in, well, reality. Enter: The AEDITOR — the patented 3D aesthetic simulator from AEDIT that allows users to ‘try on’ popular cosmetic treatments and procedures and visualize medically accurate results from their smartphone.

Intrigued? Read on to learn more about The AEDITOR and how AI/AR/ML technology is revolutionizing the beauty and aesthetics industries.

What Is The AEDITOR?

Available exclusively in the AEDIT iOS app, The AEDITOR puts the experience of a 3D aesthetic consultation right into the palm of your hands. “Handheld, digital convenience matters now more than ever,” explains William A. Kennedy III, MD, a board certified head and neck surgeon, fellowship-trained in facial plastic and constructive surgery and the founder and CEO of AEDIT. “The AEDITOR places cutting edge technology into the hands of those looking to take the next steps toward their aesthetic transformation.”

Employing the 3D facial editing technology once only available to medical professionals, users can now ‘try on’ popular cosmetic procedures (think: hyaluronic acid-based lip filler, rhinoplasty, non-surgical brow lifts, and jawline slimming with Botox® to name a few) and instantly visualize medically accurate results that are unique to their facial proportions. “I so often hear from patients that they have always wanted to get a nose job or some other procedure but are afraid to take the next step because they don’t know what to expect or what they will look like after,” Dr. Kennedy shares. “The AEDITOR takes these fears away by giving you a realistic picture of what you could look like after a cosmetic procedure.”

Offering the most realistic and medically accurate 3D aesthetic simulator, The AEDITOR eliminates the fear of unexpected or unnatural results and allows users to gain a deeper understanding of what’s possible. Just snap a selfie and use the patented AR/AI morphing technology to simulate facial cosmetic treatments and procedures. Users can instantly discover personalized, realistic results anytime, anywhere.

Why The AEDITOR?

More than three years in the making, The AEDITOR was developed by AEDIT’s in-house tech team to provide users access to the facial morphing technology previously only found in providers’ offices. Below, Dr. Kennedy shares how the product came to be and how he sees it solving some of the problems facing the beauty and aesthetics industries today.

Question: Why did you create AEDIT?

Dr. Kennedy: As a facial plastic surgeon, I always looked for a platform that could offer patients truly unbiased and trusted information about every cosmetic procedure available. What are the real pros and cons of a procedure? What is the full list of my possible alternatives? Is it really right for my individual needs? Before AEDIT, this information was only offered in a limited way from manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, or doctors’ websites. In each of those cases, the main goal is to sell their own products and procedures. At AEDIT, our goal is to empower users with the most comprehensive, unbiased information available about every cosmetic procedure, so that the user can make the best decision possible for their specific needs.

Question: How does The AEDITOR fit into that mission?

Dr. Kennedy: Doctors are seeing more and more patients who are certain of the results they are looking to achieve or the procedure they want to undergo because of what they’ve seen on social media or heard about from friends. This is leading to the influx of misinformation and unrealistic expectations. As a way to address this situation, we set out to create not only a platform that would offer medically approved and easy-to-understand information, but also a 3D aesthetic simulator — The AEDITOR — that allows users to virtually ‘try on’ cosmetic procedures and visualize realistic potential results right from the palm of their hand.

Question: What are your concerns about some of the face editing apps and tools on the market today?

Dr. Kennedy: I think we are experiencing the consequences of technology with the rise of the so-called ‘Instagram Face’ — the term used to describe how social media, facial morphing apps, and plastic surgery has created a certain desired look that is causing a lot of people to look, well, the same. The purpose of our morphing technology is the inverse of this. We want people to visualize results that are personalized to them and their features.

Question: So, what makes The AEDITOR unique?

Dr. Kennedy: Our patented technology is the first of its kind to be created for consumers. All other realistic and medically accurate morphing technologies are only available in professional medical settings. With The AEDITOR, consumers have this technology in the palm of their hand and are in control of their morphing experience. Patients can use the app whenever and wherever they please. The simulator scans and measures the user’s unique facial characteristics to create a completely individualized experience and produce results that are truly possible.

Question: How do you see The AEDITOR improving the patient-provider relationship?

Dr. Kennedy: Nine out of 10 times, prospective patients bring in a photo of someone with a feature they want to have replicated or the unobtainable results of other facial filter apps. What most people don’t realize is how it will likely look different on them. AEDIT embraces the uniqueness of cosmetic procedures and the individual receiving them. Our users can use The AEDITOR to edit their own facial features and instantly visualize realistic cosmetic surgery possibilities. We see this helping patients along their aesthetic journey and improving patient-provider communication — especially the consultation conversations that too often are focused on managing unrealistic expectations.

Question: How do you think AI/AR/ML technology will continue to revolutionize the beauty and aesthetics industries?

Dr. Kennedy: The beauty tech space allows consumers to engage with the industry in a whole new way. It is placing more emphasis on personalized experiences and giving consumers the opportunity to be more in control of their decisions — whether that be virtually trying on lipstick before purchasing it or, in our case, trying on a cosmetic procedure before booking a consultation. It is also allowing us to make it easier for consumers to get trusted information and find answers to their questions in a matter of clicks.

The Takeaway

Choosing to undergo an aesthetic treatment or procedure is a personal decision. While researching, consulting with providers, and speaking to fellow patients are all important components of the ‘discovery’ process, having a better sense of what to expect from results can help you feel more confident about your choice. Download the AEDIT iOS app to experience The AEDITOR and everything else AEDIT has to offer.
