About Mark Cappel, MD
Dr. Mark Cappel was born and raised in Monroe, Wisconsin. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and graduated Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He earned his Doctor of Medicine and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha at the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in Hershey. Following an Internship in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Dr. Cappel completed his Dermatology Residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He then completed a Dermatopathology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Cappel is board certified in Dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology and Board Certified in Dermatopathology by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Pathology. Dr. Cappel served as a Staff member in the Department of Dermatology at Mayo Clinic from 2009-2018 and as an Assistant Professor in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He has a dedicated interest in teaching and education and was previously the Dermatology Residency Program Director at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Cappel enjoys life-long learning and has given numerous dermatology and dermatopathology meeting presentations both nationally and internationally. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed medical journal articles on a wide range of dermatologic topics which are cited on PubMed. Now as a full-time dermatopathologist at Gulf Coast Dermatopathology Laboratory, Dr. Cappel continues to enjoy building on the foundational skills of clinical-pathologic correlation in providing a high-quality dermatopathology service for the dermatology providers and patients in the region.
