About Jarred S. Abel, MD
Dr. Jarred Abel is a board-certified Diplomate of The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery who specializes in surgical treatment and reconstruction of the face and oral cavity. He was raised in Potomac, MD and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. Returning to his home state, he excelled at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, paving the way to begin his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), one of the top programs in the country. After obtaining his medical degree, he completed a 1-year internship in General Surgery and completed the 6-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He also served as Chief Resident in his final year of the program. During his residency, he received extensive training in orthognathic (jaw) surgery, facial trauma, TMJ treatment, cosmetic surgery, maxillofacial pathology, and facial reconstruction. He has special interest in dentoalveolar surgery, including wisdom tooth removal, bone grafting, and dental implant surgery. Dr. Abel’s research includes protocols in orthognathic surgery, maxillomandibular advancement in sleep apnea patients, and surgical approaches to the mandible. Dr. Abel is an avid reader of classic and post-modern literature, enjoys playing golf, scuba diving, and travel.
