About Harris R. Sterman, MD
Dr. Sterman has always worked hard and striven for the best, and he has been dedicated to becoming an excellent doctor since he was in high school. When he was 18 years old, Dr. Sterman was accepted into the prestigious 7-year combined Bachelors and M.D. program at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, which takes only 20 students per year. He graduated cum laude from Brooklyn College in three years with a degree in Biology and continued his accelerated medical education at Downstate College of Medicine (now known as the State University of New York College of Medicine at Brooklyn). He earned his medical degree in 1985. Dr. Sterman then began his residency training in general surgery at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. During his time there, he performed with such excellence that he was chosen to be chief resident in 1990. He was selected to undergo a prestigious plastic surgery residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, where he once again earned the position of chief resident. He was then honored with the opportunity to complete fellowship training in craniofacial surgery at the same hospital. When his fellowship drew to a close, Dr. Sterman was invited to join the staff of Albert Einstein College Hospital/Montefiore Medical Center as a plastic surgeon and assistant professor of plastic surgery, teaching residents and future plastic surgeons the latest techniques in plastic surgery. He became board certified in plastic surgery. After teaching and practicing for several years at Einstein/Montefiore, Dr. Sterman entered into private practice in plastic surgery in New York and New Jersey. He continued to serve as a clinical assistant professor of plastic surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and was also accepted onto the staff of several regional hospitals such as Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan and Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck. For the past three years, he has been the director of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Holy Name Hospital; recently, he was asked to continue serving for a second term. In November 2007, Dr. Sterman was chosen by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of the ‘Top Doctors’ in plastic surgery in New Jersey, as voted by fellow physicians in New Jersey. Dr. Sterman has lectured and presented on all aspects of plastic and cosmetic surgery at local, national and international plastic surgery meetings. He won numerous awards during his residency for his research. He continues to share his knowledge by teaching future plastic surgeons, and he is proud to have used his skills to help improve the lives of people less fortunate both in the U.S. and abroad.
