Bartl L. Nierzwicki, DMD, MD, PhD, FACS is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Chicago, IL, and is known as a trustworthy, compassionate physician that makes sure all of his patients understand all of their options with the utmost professionalism and grace. He personally sees each patient during every visit to his office, from the initial consultation to the final post-operation check. This has earned him a reputation as being one of the best surgeons in the Midwest, and many individuals and families trust him with their care. In 2016, Chicago Magazine named him as one of Chicagoland ""Top Docs."" For children and adults, Dr. Nierzwicki performs reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries of the face, bone grafting, cancer excisions of the mouth, cleft palate and lip revisions, dental implants, surgical endodontics, and much more. Dr. Nierzwicki is a proud Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, European Board of Oro-Maxillo-Facial Surgery, as well as the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is currently a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, and American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Nierzwicki has been in practice since 1998 and maintains medical privileges at the Advocate Christ Medical Center and Advocate Children’s Hospital. Dr. Nierzwicki holds active certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support. His scope of practice is broad due to comprehensive training in maxillofacial surgical procedures, which encompasses all areas of oral and cranio-maxillofacial surgery. Dr Nierzwicki’s dental practice involves dental implants, oral pathology, pediatric oral surgery, bone graft reconstruction in preparation for implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation, and removal of third molar teeth (under local and/or general anesthesia). His medical practice focuses on head and neck pathology and oncology, corrective, reconstructive and orthognathic jaw surgery, maxillofacial trauma, management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ, jaw joint) disorders, salivary gland diseases, surgical management of obstructive sleep apnea, and anesthesiology. He has lectured nationally and internationally, and has published papers on a variety of topics related to his areas of surgical interest. Dr. Nierzwicki received his dental degree with high honors from Boston University, and his medical degree cum laude from University of Missouri – Kansas City. His oral and maxillofacial surgery residency, as well as a general surgery residency (PGY-1), were also completed at the University of Missouri. In addition, he was educated in the European tradition of maxillofacial surgery, and Dr. Nierzwicki holds a doctorate in medical sciences, with emphasis on radiation oncology of the head and neck. He also accomplished a sub-specialty fellowship in plastic and craniofacial surgery at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Dr Nierzwicki was fortunate to begin his academic surgery career at the University of Missouri immediately following his fellowship training. He served 3 valuable years of service as an Assistant Professor at University of Missouri – Kansas City, Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as a Residency Program Director involved in clinical and didactic instruction of oral and maxillofacial surgery residents.
