Dr. Aric Aghayan grew up in the Midwest and graduated from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He was drawn to plastic surgery as a perfect blend of art and science. While in medical school he joined the Navy and spent the early years of his surgery training caring for wounded sailors and Marines. He was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, where reconstructive experience solidified his love of plastic surgery. While overseas, Aghayan’s responsibilities included the medical care of 1000 Marines as well as medical preparation and operational planning for military deployments. He also developed a course for enlisted corpsmen deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan that focused on medial scenarios faced on the battlefield. The main emphasize was initial triage and resuscitation in the field and at the first echelon of care. Aghayan then went on to complete an 8-year general and plastic surgery training program at the University of Oregon Health Science Center. During this time his new wife developed breast cancer, giving him a personal insight to the struggle faced by so many, and the benefits of today’s plastic surgery options for breast reconstruction. Today, he and his family enjoy snow sports, outdoor activities and traveling.
