About the Procedure
Patients with mild to moderate overcrowding or spacing of the teeth may be good candidates for the Simpli5 clear aligner system. Clear aligners have become increasingly popular as a method for quick and discreet teeth straightening. Traditional metal braces and similar clear aligner systems such as Invisalign can take several years to see desired results, whereas Simpli5 is completed in as little as 3-5 months. Although Simpli5 typically focuses on improvement of only the front 8 teeth, results are dramatic. After a consultation with an orthodontist to ensure candidacy, molds will be taken of the teeth in order to create the series of custom trays. Patients will return to the orthodontist once the tray has been manufactured to check for accurate fit. Each tray will be worn for a period of 3-4 weeks and then exchanged, gradually realigning the teeth. Once treatment is complete, a retainer will need to be worn.
The goal of Simpli5 clear aligners is to improve a number of dental imperfections such as crowding, too much space between teeth, overbite, crossbite, openbite, and overjet.
What to Expect
The Simpli5 clear aligner system is a quick, discreet, teeth straightening program that uses custom trays to realign the teeth in as little as 4-5 months. Here is a quick guide for what to expect before, during, and after treatment with Simpli5.
- Mold will be taken of the teeth in order to create a custom treatment plan
- X-rays may also be taken to track teeth movement
A series of 5 trays are changed every 3-4 weeks until teeth have shifted into their final position. Aligners are typically worn for at least 20 hours a day, only being removed for eating or brushing the teeth.
Once the Simpli5 aligners are in place, there is typically minimal irritation and discomfort. No recovery time or downtime is needed.
The ideal candidate for the Simpli5 clear aligner system has generally good oral health and has minor malocclusion issues such as crowding, spacing, or rotation of the front teeth in either the upper, lower, or both arches.
Not Recommended For
Simpli5 is not recommended for children as their mouths are still growing. Children usually do not have the dedication to finish the program. Patients with severe orthodontic issues are not candidates because the jaw needs to be shifted.
Side effects associated with the Simpli5 clear aligner system may include minor speech impediments or hindrance to proper and comfortable speech. Patients may also experience bad breath, dry mouth, and increased salivation. Patients may experience issues with their overall bit by only addressing the front 8 teeth.
