Having trained in the birthplace of perforator-based breast reconstruction (which preserves the patient’s muscle), we are pleased to have Dr. Matatov bring this highly-specialized skill set to the Southwest. During his training, he performed implant-based reconstruction and more than 150 perforator based microvascular breast reconstruction cases, which utilize a patient’s own tissue. Prior to his three years of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery training Dr. Matatov completed a 5-year General Surgery Residency at Louisiana State University, and he was appointed as an Administrative Chief Resident during the final years of both his general surgery and plastic surgery training. Due to his compassionate patient care, clinical judgment, and surgical skills, he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society as a 3rd year resident; an honor given to only one resident from any department in the institution each year. Dr. Tim Matatov is also a member of the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, which is known for advancing the field of microsurgery through education and technique refinement. In order to be considered for the ASRM memebership position, one must have a high-volume microsurgical practice and routinely publish papers in the field.
