About Steven Proper, MD
Steven Proper, MD, JD, MPH, CHRM has been practicing Dermatologic, Mohs, and Cutaneous Cosmetic Surgery in the Tampa Bay Area for twenty-five years. Dr. Proper received his Medical Degree from the University of Medicine of New Jersey where his postgraduate training included Residencies in Internal Medicine, Intensive Medical Care, Emergency Medicine, and Endocrinology. He continued his training at New York University Skin and Cancer Center's Dermatology Residency Program followed by a one-year Specialty Fellowship in Mohs Surgery for Skin Cancer at Baylor University. To better serve his patients in the ever-changing Managed Healthcare environment, Dr. Proper enhanced his education at Stetson University's College of Law and at the University of South Florida's College of Public Health where he received the outstanding student award. Dr. Proper is Board Certified by the American Boards of Dermatology, Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism. Dr. Proper is fellowship trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. Dr. Proper also has a Master of Public Health Degree in Management and Finance and is a Certified Healthcare Risk Manager. He has been elected to Fellowship in the American College of Legal Medicine and holds an appointment as Affiliate Associate Professor in Medicine (Dermatology) at the University of South Florida. He is a member of many scientific and medical societies and has published over 20 peer-review journal articles. During the era of managed care development in the 1990s, Dr. Proper served as Assistant Clinical Coordinator for the PRO and as Medical Director of Physician Consulting and Management Corporation. As the first trained and nationally certified instructor in Mohs Surgery in Tampa, Dr. Proper has frequently lectured on related topics in skin disease, skin cancer, and Dermatological Cosmetic procedures.
