About Robert Foster
Dr. Robert D. Foster is chief of Plastic Surgery and director of the Breast Reconstruction Service at the Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center at Mount Zion. He performs more than 300 breast reconstructions a year as well as a broad range of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.Foster earned a medical degree at State University of New York Health Science Center. He completed a general surgery residency at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y., and a plastic surgery residency at UCSF, where he has worked since 1997. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His research includes studies to evaluate breast reconstruction techniques and develop methods to help patients through the decision-making process during breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Foster has been recognized nationally and internationally for his research in transplantation tolerance and molecular biology. He is the author of more than 75 publications and a guest reviewer for seven scientific journals. He is a professor of surgery at UCSF.
