About Rick J. Smith, MD
Rick J. Smith, MD, FACS, is an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon providing cosmetic procedures in East Lansing, Michigan, and the neighboring communities. Dr. Smith graduated with a degree in chemistry from Kalamazoo College and earned his medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He then completed his residency in general and plastic surgery at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before spending a year training with craniofacial expert Dr. Ian T. Jackson. Dr. Smith started in practice as a cosmetic surgeon in 1993, gaining extensive experience in performing aesthetic surgeries such as facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and body contouring. As a result, he demonstrates an inspiring level of expertise, which he matches with his calm manner and sincere respect for his patients. His aim is to help his patients enhance their well-being by removing their insecurities and allowing them to live the lives they wish. A prominent member of his profession, Dr. Smith is committed to developing his practice in line with advancements in technology and refinements in technique. He makes regular contributions to professional journals and travels widely to discuss new techniques in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery and is responsible for some notable advances in treatment and healing. Dr. Smith is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The Aesthetic Society, and is one of only two Michigan members of The Rhinoplasty Society. He’s also an assistant professor at Michigan State University, regularly training surgical students on rotation.
