About Richard W. Yee, MD
Over 25,000 people, including University of Texas Medical Center doctors, medical students, optometrists, Houston Chronicle photographers, pro-athletes, and soccer moms have trusted their eyes to Dr. Yee for procedures ranging from LASEK, PRK, AK, DSEK, cataract and corneal transplants. His experience and reputation as a corneal refractive, anterior segment sub-specialist is recognized worldwide by the eye health community — and as soon as you meet him in person. Dr. Yee will be the first to tell you that your eyes’ health and safety is his number one priority. It’s for this reason alone that he performs LASEK exclusively instead of LASIK for his patients who make good refractive candidates. In the LASEK procedure, no cut is made to create the flap necessary for laser application. No cut = no flap complications. Flap complications, along with dry eye, are the major risks associated with LASIK surgery. LASEK cuts that flap complication risk to zero. It’s safer. And the safer option is always the better option for Dr. Yee. Dr. Yee was born in Michigan but has lived in Texas for over 40 years. He is an honors graduate of Houston Baptist University and received his eye training from UTMB-Galveston and the University of Texas Health & Science Center. He also received specialized training in Cornea/ External Disease at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Respected throughout the world as a leading corneal surgeon and researcher, Dr. Yee is dedicated to scientific research, teaching, and the improvement of vision. His efforts and accomplishments have been recognized with the awarding of the prestigious Joe M. Greene Jr., Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology.
