About Rajanya Petersson, MD
Dr. Petersson is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Virginia Society of Otolaryngology. She is dedicated to the education of medical students and otolaryngology residents at Virginia Commonwealth University, and to the pursuit of research to further advance the field of pediatric otolaryngology. She has presented at national meetings, as well as authored peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, on various topics in pediatric otolaryngology and facial plastic surgery. She regularly participates in surgical humanitarian trips to perform cleft lip and palate surgery. Dr. Petersson joined the faculty in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University in August 2012, and has been practicing in the area since then. Her practice interests span the entire spectrum of pediatric ear, nose, and throat disease, including pediatric facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Petersson obtained her M.D. from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY in 2006. She completed a residency in otorhinolaryngology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in 2011, and a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology, with a focus on pediatric facial plastic surgery, from the University of Minnesota in 2012. Dr. Petersson is board-certified in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Petersson, her husband, and two young sons are enjoying the weather in Richmond after spending most of their lives in cold climates. In her spare time, she enjoys watching her kids play various sports, running, tennis, travelling, and reading.
