About Raechele C. Gathers, MD
Dr. Raechele Cochran Gathers is a dermatologist, board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. She completed her undergraduate training at Cornell University, and received her medical degree from The University of Michigan School of Medicine. Dr. Gathers completed her dermatology residency training at Henry Ford Hospital, where she served as chief resident. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), The Skin of Color Society (SOCS), and the Women’s Dermatological Society, among others. Dr. Gathers has served on the Women’s Dermatological Society International Affairs Committee. She is a past member of the SOCS Board of Directors and past head of its website committee. She currently serves on the Diversity in Action Taskforce of the Skin of Color Society. Dr. Gathers has received numerous awards for her commitment to dermatology. She is a past member of the American Academy of Dermatology Academic Leadership Program, and was a past winner of the L’Oreal Ethnic Skin and Hair Symposium Young Investigator Award. In 2006, she received the AAD Program for Innovative Continuing Medical Education in Dermatology Grant for a creating of a newsletter merging the fields of technology and healthcare. In 2014, Dr. Gathers was selected to the Inaugural class of the Henry Ford Health System Healthcare Equity Scholars Program, which was designed to create experts in the field of healthcare equity. Her clinical research in African American scalp and hair disease has been published in leading dermatology journals, and she has lectured both nationally and internationally regarding issues of skin of color dermatology. Dr. Gathers has been featured in numerous websites and media outlets. She has co-authored several dermatology textbook chapters, and is a co-editor of the textbook, “Treatments for Skin of Color.” Dr. Gathers has a particular interest in the areas of health education and wellness promotion.
