About Nicole M. Owens, MD
After completing undergraduate studies at Duke University with a bachelor of science in biology, Dr. Owens matriculated to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Upon graduation from medical school, she completed an internal medicine residency program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and practiced as an internist for six years. She then went back to train as a dermatologist and completed a dermatology residency training program at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution. Dr. Owens practiced dermatology in the Army where she headed the Air Force and Army combined dermatology residency training program during which time she was responsible for the training of 21 dermatologists in their specialty each year. While in the Army, she was also head of the phototherapy clinic and patch testing clinic at Brooke Army Medical Center where she developed expertise in both using light therapy to treat a variety of skin disorders and testing and treating patients with a variety of skin allergies. She has extensive experience using a variety of lasers and cosmetic treatments which she taught to residents while in charge of the training program at Brooke Army Medical Center. Dr. Owens is the proud parent of 2 sons and 1 daughter. She has been married to Mark Owens, also a retired Army physician, for the past twenty five years
