A native of Michigan, Dr. Nicole O’Neill (formerly Dr. Tromble) pursued a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, Pre-Medicine, double minor in chemistry and psychology at the University of Michigan. Dr. O’Neill’s Medical Doctorate was earned at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Post-graduate training and residency training was performed at St. Joseph Mercy Health System in Ann Arbor. While she arrived at a medicine based career, she considers herself a Proceduralist. She spent several months of residency concentrating on office dermatology as well as performed hospital consults on complex patients with dermatologic conditions. She developed a strong interest in cosmetic aspects of dermatology and pursued advanced training as a resident alongside Dermatology colleagues. After completing residency training, Dr. O’Neill earned the distinction of Chief Resident and Fellow of Internal Medicine. An additional post-doctorate year was spent with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital serving as an attending rounding on inpatient medicine service as a hospitalist both on teaching and non-teaching services. She served as an attending on the academic teaching faculty, rounding on hospital wards with residents, and supervised outpatient academic Internal Medicine residents. As a fellow, she developed teaching curricula and lead morning conference and lectures for residents. She mentored residents in academia in several facets, reviewing and critiquing medical literature and analyzing studies and data as well as mentoring residents on presenting their research at Grand Rounds. She earned second place for her research in our regional research forum among colleagues from a variety of disciplines. She went on to develop a Women’s Health curriculum for the residency program and served as an attending physician in Women’s Health Clinic teaching residents for 1.5 years, while pursuing national certification as a distinguished provider for the care of menopausal women’s special needs through the NAMS foundation.
