About Lucke C. Nicholas, MD
Dr. Luke Nicholas is a board-certified dermatologist through the American Board of Dermatology and a fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon. He is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan and a 17-year veteran of the United States Navy. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan where he majored in biology and minored in chemistry. Dr. Nicholas received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Nicholas completed his dermatology residency while on active duty at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and achieved board certification through the American Board of Dermatology. He completed a fellowship in 2016 in Procedural Dermatology and Cutaneous Oncology at the University of Massachusetts. At his final assignment, Dr. Nicholas served as the Chief of Mohs Surgery at the world-renowned, Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Dr. Nicholas separated from the U.S. Navy in June 2019 after having achieved the rank of Commander and returned home to West Michigan to join fellow dermatologist and friend, Dr. Ryan Freeland, former Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Nicholas specializes in Mohs micrographic surgery, a precise surgical technique used to treat skin cancer, whereby thin layers of cancer-containing skin are sequentially removed and examined until only cancer-free tissue remains. In his leisure time, Dr. Nicholas enjoys being with his wife and their three young children. He appreciates an active, outdoor lifestyle through running, playing sports with his sons or spending time on the water. As a west Michigan native, he considers it a blessing and privilege to have been able to return to this area and care for the people of the community that raised him.
