About Lawrence Koplin

Lawrence M. Koplin, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a native of Beverly Hills, California, where he attended both elementary and high school. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California at Berkeley in 1972. His medical training was at The Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he trained with noted heart surgeons Dr. Michael DeBakey and Dr. Denton Cooley, followed by a full five-year general surgery residency in Los Angeles prior to beginning his specialization in plastic surgery. Dr. Koplin returned to Houston for his plastic surgery residency, where he acquired extensive experience in the treatment of children with birth defects, multiple reconstructive techniques, and a wide range of cosmetic procedures. He also had the opportunity to study under Dr. Thomas Cronin, inventor of the silicone breast implant. Under Dr. Cronin’s tutelage, Dr. Koplin received specialized experience in all aspects of breast surgery, including augmentation (placement of implants), reduction, uplifts and reconstruction following mastectomy. An author of multiple articles and several book chapters on plastic surgery, Dr. Koplin holds double board certification in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery, and is regarded as an innovative artist in the field of plastic surgery. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
