About Joseph S. Eastern, MD
Dr. Joseph Eastern is Clinical Professor of Medicine/Dermatology at Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medical Education and former Clinical Assistant Professor at UMDNJ – New Jersey Medical School, and has practiced dermatology and dermatologic surgery in New Jersey for 34 years. He completed his MD at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, internship at Memorial Hospital Medical Center in Long Beach, CA, and a residency in Dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where he was Chief Resident in his final year. He is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Eastern originated the Optimum Office Efficiency course at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting and directed it for many years. A Fellow of that organization, he has directed several other courses and symposia, and has been a speaker at the AAD annual meetings for 29 consecutive years. He has served on multiple AAD committees and task forces, as well as the Pamphlet Editorial Board. He was awarded AAD Presidential Citations in 2014 and 2015. Dr Eastern is active in many dermatology organizations and is a two-time past president of the Dermatological Society of New Jersey, where he continues to serve on the Executive Board. Other long-time memberships include the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, International Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Society for Investigative Dermatology, and the Noah Worcester Society. A nationally and internationally recognized speaker, he has delivered invited presentations in nearly every state and several foreign countries, including France, India, Egypt, and South Korea. He has been a principal investigator for a variety of clinical therapy trials. He is the author of numerous articles and textbook chapters, and serves on the Editorial Boards of Cutis, The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, and DermQuest.com. He is a long-time contributor to Cutis and monthly columnist and Advisory Board member for Dermatology News. He has been named a Top Doctor by New Jersey Monthly magazine, HealthTap.com, and Who’s Who.
