About Jonathan Pontell, MD
By limiting his practice exclusively to facial plastic surgery, Dr. Jonathan Pontell has been able to gain vast experience and offer the most innovative, effective and safe techniques for aesthetically enhancing the face. He is board certified in facial plastic surgery by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is additionally board certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. As the medical director, founder, and surgeon of The Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Pontell serves patients in Wayne, Pennsylvania, the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia, South Jersey and Delaware. Dr. Pontell also sees patients from all over the U.S. and internationally as well. Jonathan Pontell, MD fell in love with the Delaware Valley when he was a medical student at Jefferson Medical College, and always dreamed of returning there to practice and raise his family. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College, where he was inducted into the Hobart Amory Hare Medical Honor Society. Dr. Pontell went on to do a residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the State University of New York – Health Science Center at Brooklyn. He followed his time there with a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. After his fellowship, Dr. Pontell, pursuant to a military scholarship, served for three and a half years as the Director of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. As the primary military medical center for the entire Pacific Rim, Tripler has patients referred in from throughout Asia and the islands of the Central and South Pacific for various cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries necessary to rebuild the structure and appearance of the face. Dr. Pontell also served as a visiting surgeon to the Republic of the Marshall Islands and to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Pontell also served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine and trained many surgical residents and medical students in the art and science of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Pontell has lectured across the country at national medical meetings and has had many medical journal articles and book chapters published. In addition, he has taught continuing medical education courses on facial rejuvenation and facial reconstructive surgery for other doctors. Dr. Pontell has also served as both President and Treasurer of the Hawaii Society of Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Pontell is proud to donate his services as part of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’s Face to Face Program and Faces of Honor Program. Through the Face to Face Program, Dr. Pontell provides free surgical treatment to victims of domestic violence throughout the areas surrounding South Jersey, Delaware and Philadelphia. Through the Faces of Honor program, Dr. Pontell his offers surgical expertise to veterans and active duty members who were injured while deployed in support of the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. Outside of his passion for his work as a facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Pontell loves spending time with his family, collecting antique art glass, making stained glass windows, skiing, nature photography, and golf.
