About John G. Hunter
Dr. Hunter is Clinical Professor of Surgery (Plastic Surgery) at Weill Cornell Medical College, and Vice Chairman, Department of Surgery, and Chief, Division of Plastic Surgery at NY Presbyterian- Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. He served as Medical Director of Perioperative Services, and is Chairman of the Medical Board Operating Room Committee. Dr. Hunter is an internationally-recognized expert in female genital cosmetic surgery; he also lectures widely on patient safety, quality improvement and national health care policy. He serves on the Editorial Boards of of three major peer-reviewed international plastic surgery journals, as well as the leading medical management journal, Physician Leadership Journal. Dr. Hunter is a past President of the NY Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons and past Chair of the Section of Plastic Surgery of the NY Academy of Medicine. He is a member of the by invitation, prestigious American Association of Plastic Surgeons. A NYPD Honorary Surgeon since 1994, Dr. Hunter participated in 9/11 rescue and recovery efforts, and many other NYPD activities. For these contributions he was awarded the Voluntary Service medal (MOVSM) by US Navy, and the NYPD Service Achievement Award. Dr. Hunter joined US Navy Reserve after onset of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Commissioned as a Lieutenant Commander, he was promoted to Commander in 2008, and Honorably Discharged in 2012. Dr. Hunter was commissioned as a Commander in the New York Naval Militia in 2016.
