About HowardKatherine O. Ayoade, MD
Katherine Omueti Ayoade, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in general dermatology, hair loss disorders, and skin cancer. Born in Nigeria into a culturally diverse home (Nigerian father, American mother), Dr. Ayoade came to the U.S. to complete her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign. After graduation, she worked for Procter & Gamble at its Health Care Research Center before enrolling in the dual-degree program offered by the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois Urbana – Champaign College of Medicine. She earned her Ph.D. in 2007 from the Department of Biochemistry (training with Richard Tapping, Ph.D.) and her M.D. in 2010. Following her years in Illinois, Dr. Ayoade came to UT Southwestern, where she completed a residency in dermatology and a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Pharmacology (working with David Mangelsdorf, Ph.D., and Steven Kliewer, Ph.D.). Her research interests include all types of hair loss and alopecias, with a particular interest in cicatricial alopecias. Board certified in dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Ayoade is currently seeing and accepting new patients in her clinic. Among her many honors, she received the 2013 Award for Humanism and Professionalism by the resident physicians of the UTSW Department of Dermatology.
