About Gilly S. Munavalli, MD
Dr. Gilly Munavalli is the medical director and founder of Dermatology, Laser & Vein Specialists of the Carolinas. His accomplished academic résumé begins in his home state of North Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Science from UNC – Chapel Hill. Next, Dr. Munavalli earned a Master of Health Science from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health followed by a Doctorate of Medicine from Morehouse Medical School. Also, he completed an internship at the Mayo Clinic prior to beginning his residency in dermatology. Dr. Munavalli’s dermatology training began in residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Directly after, he obtained dermatologic surgery fellowships in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, cutaneous oncology, facial reconstruction, cosmetic and laser surgery at the University of California at San Francisco. Last but not least, he fulfilled additional phlebology and advanced laser surgery fellowships at the Maryland Laser, Skin & Vein Institute and Johns Hopkins University. He received his Board Certification from the American Board of Dermatology in 2002. Dr. Munavalli has nearly 20 years of experience in dermatology and dermatologic surgery. His areas of expertise are diverse and include treatments like tumescent liposuction, blepharoplasty, laser skin resurfacing, facial volume enhancement, fat transfer, as well as laser removal of small blood vessels, birthmarks, acne, tattoos, fine lines and wrinkles. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine – Department of Dermatology. Dr. Munavalli also serves as a Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship Director for the ASDS. Previously, he spent four years on the clinical faculty of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. On a personal note, Dr. Munavalli is a native of Salisbury, NC and has spent over a third of his life in the Tar Heel state. Dr. Munavalli’s hobbies include reading, exercising, tropical fish keeping, sports and international travel. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Deyne and his son, Vir.
