About David H. Refermat, MD
David H. Refermat, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a Rochester native and a graduate of Pittsford Sutherland High School. He is a cum laude graduate of Williams College and earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester. After his surgical internship he served in the U.S. Navy throughout the Pacific Rim as a battalion surgeon with the Marine Corps 3rd Marine Division and at the Navy’s S.E.R.E. school in Coronado, California. Dr. Refermat earned multiple commendations for his service and achieved the rank of Commander in the Navy Medical Corps. He then returned to the University of Rochester to complete his general and plastic surgery training. At Yale University, he subsequently completed a fellowship in hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and microsurgery. Dr. Refermat practiced for 8 years at Baystate Medical Center, a 716 bed academic medical center and tertiary care hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he was as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. In 2011, he was named Chief of Plastic Surgery at Baystate. Dr. Refermat is board certified in plastic surgery and holds a certificate in undersea and hyperbaric medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He specializes in plastic and reconstructive surgery and hand surgery.
