About Charles Nathan, MD
Meticulous by nature, St. Louis plastic surgeon Dr. Charles Nathan has always enjoyed figuring out how things work and learning how to improve them. Cosmetic medicine is an ideal fit for him. “Plastic surgery allows a surgeon to be very innovative and develop new techniques that can significantly impact the outcome of a procedure,” says Dr. Nathan, a board-certified plastic surgeon and St. Louis native. “A meticulous nature is very important for plastic surgeons as every step and stitch may affect the aesthetic results.” Dr. Nathan returned to the area to practice after completing extensive training and joined Parkcrest Surgical. In 2014, he joined St. Louis Cosmetic Surgery, where patients value his versatility and talent. Dr. Nathan did my augmentation in 2004 and I didn’t want anyone else doing my procedure in 2015. He is approachable, he is realistic and he gives great care. He never tried to convince me one way or the other, just wanted to make sure I had all my options before proceeding. Dr. Nathan earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. After completing 5 years of general surgery training at The Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Dr. Nathan became a board-certified general surgeon. He then completed plastic surgery training at the Lahey Clinic in Boston, which included rotations at the esteemed Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. At St. Louis Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Nathan specializes in a wide variety of cosmetic procedures for the face, breasts, and body. When I was in college, I wanted to get some experience in an operating room. My father, who was a general surgeon, set me up with a colleague who was a plastic surgeon. I was hooked! I loved the variety of cases and the ability to truly change someone’s life. Working with a staff that is happy and motivated in a beautiful environment. Also, I enjoy having partners with varied experience, which allows us to discuss difficult cases and improve our outcomes. Early in my practice, a shy 12-year-old girl came to my office for a breast reduction. She wore shirts untucked to hide the size of her breasts but was still ridiculed at school. She could barely look me in the eye. During the breast reduction, I removed 10 pounds of breast tissue (it was 10% of her body weight). When she came back to my office 3 months later, she was a beaming, confident young woman. During the exam, I saw she had bikini tan lines and she said she felt like a middle schooler again. I continued to remain in touch with her through the years, and she became a very successful young lady, and she always thanked me for helping restore her confidence. I would want someone to say, “From the second I walked into the office until I finished my postoperative recovery, the entire process was unbelievable. The office and the staff were nicer and more informative than I ever anticipated, and my surgeon was patient answering all of my questions and made me feel comfortable about the procedure I wanted. My results were outstanding, and I could not be happier.” Dr. Nathan frequently continues his education through attending conferences and staying abreast of the latest trends and scientific developments in the industry.
