About Camila K. Janniger, MD
Camila Krysicka Janniger, MD, a physician, writer, academic and researcher, is Clinical Professor of Dermatology and the Chief of Geriatric Dermatology at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She is also the Co-Director of the New Jersey Center for Dermatology and Plastic Surgery. Dr. Janniger is an internationally recognized expert in skin health, with a special interest in tumor research. Her illustrious contributions include original descriptions of subtypes of Kaposi's sarcoma. Dr. Janniger was born in Sopot, Poland on July 18, 1959, the child of Polish Army officers who fought in World War II. She matriculated into the Medical University of Warsaw in 1978. She participated in athletics as a swimmer on the university's team and excelled academically, receiving multiple Dean's Prizes. A member of the democratic opposition in communist Poland, Dr. Janniger co-founded the Independent Students' Union (NZS), the student arm of Solidarity, at the Medical University of Warsaw. Dr. Janniger attained her medical degree in 1984. Following an internship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, Dr. Janniger completed a residency in dermatology at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1990, serving as chief resident during her final year. She has been board-certified in dermatology since 1990. Dr. Janniger has collaborated with institutions of higher learning all over the world and is the recipient of numerous prestigious accolades, including recent election to honorary membership in the Kuwait Society of Dermatology and the Jordanian Society for Dermatology and Venereology. Dr. Janniger has served as a consultant to the Qatar National Research Fund and the Ministry of Health of Kuwait. Dr. Janniger authored the original descriptions of ecchymotic Kaposi's sarcoma in 1995 in Cutis and keloidal Kaposi's sarcoma in 1994 in Dermatology. Her recent work in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology highlighted a potentially overlooked triggering factor for Kaposi's sarcoma in millions of Africans. Dr. Janniger is Managing Editor of Medscape Dermatology and founding Section Editor and a Editor of Special Issues for Cutis. Dr. Janniger serves on the editorial boards of many scientific journals, including SKINmed, Dermatology and Cosmetics, Clinical Dermatology, Medical Mycology, Dermatology Review, Medical Surgical and Cosmetic Dermatology, and the Serbian Journal of Dermatology. Dr. Janniger is active in professional societies. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a charter member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Chapter. In 2012, Dr. Janniger served as a member of the Executive Board of the World Health Academy’s 1st International Winter Consensus Conference. Dr. Janniger has been named a ""Top Doctor"" by Castle Connolly Medical and a ""Super Doctor"" by Key Professional Media. Additionally, Dr. Janniger was featured in Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare in its inaugural edition.
