About Barry Shipman, DMD
Dr. Barry Shipman is a specialist in prosthetic dentistry with a sub specialty in maxillofacial prosthetics and the dental and prosthodontic management of the head and neck cancer patient. He maintains a private practice in Miami and sees patients on referral from the Mt. Sinai Medical Center, University of Miami, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Baptist Medical Center and is part of the teaching staff at the Nova Southeastern University School of Dentistry. Dr. Shipman is a Clinical Professor, University of Florida, School of Dentistry, Hialeah Dental Center, where he teaches part time. Dr. Shipman received his D.M.D. degree from Tufts University, his graduate prosthodontic training at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center and his Maxillofacial Prosthetic training at Roswell Park Memorial Institute and the State University of Buffalo. Dr. Shipman was a faculty member and an Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, U.M.H.C, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr Shipman also held the rank of Professor, Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry and School of Medicine and was the Director of Maxillofacial Prosthetics. Dr. Shipman is a Member of the Head and Neck Tumor Board and Cancer Committee at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center and consults on the management and rehabilitation of the sequella associated with therapies for head and neck chance patients. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Maxillofacial Pprosthetics, American College of Dentists and a member of the American College of Prosthodontics. Dr. Shipman has lectured and written on a variety of subjects with a special attention to management of the head and neck cancer patient. He is currently involved in the development of rehabilitation modalities for managing trismus associated with radiation, chemo-radiation and surgical management of head and neck tumors.
