About Barry R. Mcguire, DMD
Barry was born on June 5, 1952. Barry’s father, Dr. Roland McGuire, was a general dentist practicing in their hometown of New London, Connecticut. As a result, Barry’s exposure to Dentistry began at an early age. Barry attended Boston College and graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. In 1978 he completed a course of study and graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham with a degree in Allied Health. From 1982 to 1986 Barry attended The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He was actively involved in research activities and tutoring other medical and dental students during these years. Upon graduation Barry received the D.M.D. degree. Additionally he received the AAOMS award for the most outstanding performance in Oral Surgery and the Lewis Fox Award, in recognition of the highest overall achievement in dental school. In July 1986 Barry entered The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at The University of Connecticut. He completed his residency in 1990. He has since practiced within the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Hartford County. He is currently a partner in Connecticut Maxillofacial Surgeons, L.L.C., and is a member of the Senior Attending Staff of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. In addition, he is on the Courtesy Staff of Hartford Hospital and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Barry has an appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. In this capacity he is an instructor to residents within the program, specifically during their rotation to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. From 1994 to 2004 Barry was a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. From 2000 to 2002 he served as president of this organization. In 2003, in recognition of his service to organized dentistry, Barry was inducted into the American College of Dentists, a national honorary dental organization. Barry is a life-long sailor. He enjoys boating with friends and family. He lives in West Hartford with his wife, Phyllis, and two sons, Ryan and Sean.
