About Aida Bounama, MD
Berkeley Eye Center is excited to welcome Dr. Aida Bounama to our team of experienced physicians. Aida Bounama M.D. is a board certified and fellowship-trained ophthalmologist, specializing in Oculoplastic Surgery. She was born in Algeria and moved to New York City at a young age, and is fluent in three languages. She attended Dartmouth College, where she conducted research in the field of Chemistry earning a prestigious Zabriskie Fellowship and was nominated as a Rufus Choate Scholar. She was inspired to go into the field of medicine after participating in international medical service trips and volunteering with local organizations within her community. After graduating magna cum laude from Dartmouth College with a major in Chemistry and a minor in French, Dr. Bounama obtained her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital before starting her residency training in Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania Scheie Eye Institute. She came to San Antonio, Texas to complete her ASOPRS Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center. She worked with Drs. Donald Hollsten and Constance Fry in San Antonio, where she was nominated Fellow of the Year, before joining Berkeley Eye Center. She is active in clinical research. Her work has been presented at numerous academic conferences and published in medical journals. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, staying active through sports, and spending time with family and friends.
